Updated: Edgewater Man Arrested for Arnold Assault

Police arrested Oliver Miller, who pulled a handgun at a cookout on Sunday night.

Updated (3:45 p.m.)—Anne Arundel County Police report the arrest of Oliver Miller of Edgewater for an incident that occurred Sunday night at a cookout in Arnold.

Officers responded to a report of a man armed with a handgun around 7:58 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Birchcrest Court and Kimwood Road, according to a release from police. Witnesses reportedly told police that Miller had a handgun at a cookout and struck a 32-year-old male victim from Arnold in the head and face with the gun. Miller fled the area in a 2003 BMW X5 and, despite a search of the area, officers were unable to locate him.

A magazine from a GLOCK pistol was found at the scene and the victim was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Miller is charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, having a handgun on his person, using a handgun in a violent crime, possessing a handgun in a vehicle, disorderly conduct and other related charges. 

Police describe Miller as a black man, approximately 7 feet tall and 300 pounds with auburn hair and eyes.
