Fatal Pedestrian Accident Occurs on College Parkway

Police say a Severn man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20-year-old Severn man died after he was struck walking along College Parkway in Arnold on Saturday night.

Anne Arundel County police said the incident occurred just after 9 p.m. and Thomas James Grant Becker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial police investigation revealed that a Volvo was traveling west on College Parkway near Bellrive Road when it struck Becker in the westbound lane. Police said evidence showed Becker "was in the travel portion of the roadway wearing dark non-reflective clothing."

There are no marked crosswalks or pedestrian signals in the area. The driver and passenger of the Volvo reportedly sustained minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene.

At this time, police said it is unknown if speed or alcohol are contributing factors and pedestrian error was listed as the primary cause of this crash. The investigation is ongoing.
