Firefighters Battle House Fire on St. Margaret's Road

One adult and two children escaped the home without injury.

More than 50 firefighters responded to a house fire on St. Margaret's Road in Broadneck on Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the scene of a two-story dwelling fire at about 2:19 p.m., in the 1700 block of St. Margaret's Road, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department Chief Michael Cox.

Soon afterward, fire officials blocked the roadway to traffic as 54 firefighters fought the blaze for 20 minutes. 

One adult and two children were at home at the time of the fire, and were alerted to the blaze by a smoke alarm, Cox said. They were able to evacuate the home without any injuries.

In all, the home sustained an estimated $215,000 in damages as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Cox said. The Red Cross was called to assist two adults and three children.
