Man Gets No Bond in Attempted Murder Case

A trial for Robert Benscoter is scheduled for Aug. 7 in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.

A man charged with attempting to kill his mother with a hammer in March was denied bond at a Friday court hearing.

Robert Nolan Benscoter, 33, of the 1300 block of Hazel Nut Court in Annapolis near Cape St. Claire, was charged with second-degree murder after an incident on March 20 where . The woman survived the assault.

Police said that when they arrived, Benscoter had fled the home and led police on an extensive manhunt involving K-9 and air units. He was later found in a wooded area near Commanders Way.

The Capital reported that Benscoter's assault on his mother allegedly occurred after he learned she intended to report his misuse of her credit card. 

Benscoter's bond was revoked on Friday after a court hearing, where his mother said she feared he may retaliate if he is released on his own recognizance, The Capital reported.
