Man Who Fell From Cable Car Dies After Treatment

An Arnold man was killed after the cable car he was riding in malfunctioned.

A man who fell from a cable car after the cable snapped on Friday passed away while in the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said.

John Menzies, 69, of the 1300 block of Kinloch Circle in Arnold, died early Saturday morning, according to Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy.

"There is no indication of foul play and this is an ongoing death investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will rule on the final cause and manner of death," Mulcahy said.

Menzies and his family have a small trolley cart to travel down a steep embankment several hundred feet down to reach their dock. According to Mulcahy, Menzies' wife heard the cable snap, and she called authorities. When she went outside, she found her husband beneath the cable car.

When help arrived, he was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he later died, Mulcahy said.
