Police say the 18-year-old started the fight that ultimately hospitalized him.

Nearly a week after behind , police have concluded that no charges will be filed.

Anne Arundel County Police Department spokesman Justin Mulcahy said investigators believe the older male started the fight.

"Through the investigation, the department determined that the 18-year-old male was the aggressor in the incident," Mulcahy said. "After numerous interviews and consultation with the State's Attorney's Office, no charges were filed against either individual."

If charges had been filed, the 15-year-old student might have been subject to reprimand, based on a school board policy that deals with "students charged with criminal or juvenile offenses of a serious nature in the community."

Under that policy, if a student is deemed violent or a threat to others, the student may be transferred to an alternative school at the discretion of school administrators.

The Capital reported Thursday that the 18-year-old's father says his son is recovering from the injury he sustained in the fight. That man, Jim Cefaratti, said he thinks nothing comes from students gathering at a place like "The Pit."
