Overstocked with Drugs? Drop Unused Meds Off Saturday

The Drug Enforcement Administration and local police are cooperating in hosting a drug take-back initiative on Saturday, with drop-off locations stationed across the county.

The Prescription Drug Take Back initiative was a big success earlier this year, collecting more than 300 pounds of expired or unused medications. Safely disposing of these medications prevents the drugs from falling into the wrong hands. Additionally, improper disposal of these drugs, such as pouring them down a toilet or sink can cause serious problems to the local water system.

Anyone with unused and/or expired prescription medication is invited to bring them to the their local disposal unit, which are distributed across the county. To find the location nearest you, use the DEA's local site search on its website, or use the list below.

The take-back initiative is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Edgewater's Eastern District Headquarters is the home of the county's first MedReturn drug disposal station. The small, green tin allows residents to bring in any unwanted prescription drug and simply toss them into the disposal chute.
