Anne Arundel County police have identified the man who died Friday after likely suffering a heart attack and falling from a boat into the Severn River.

Frederick Ervin Jr. of Severna Park appeared to be seasick, went to the side of the boat, and fell overboard, reports CapitalGazette.com.

Ervin, 56, was piloting a boat back from a trip through Middle River to Plum Creek when he collapsed about 5:30 p.m., police said. A passenger took control of the boat.

County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Ariel Jackson said emergency personnel arrived shortly after 5:30 p.m. at a private dock on the 1000 block of Shoreview Circle in Crownsville to assist Ervin.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate Ervin, but he was pronounced dead at the scene about 20 minutes later.

Police Spokeswoman Candy Thomson told WJLA TV the victim was piloting a 33-foot center-console boat back from a trip through Middle River to Plum Creek when he suffered a medical emergency and fell into the water.
