UPDATED: Search Continues for Missing Boater

Rescuers found a woman and a man but were unable to find a third person believed to be with them Saturday afternoon. The man reportedly died.

Updated (Dec. 19)—The search resumed this morning for a missing boater after a fatal boating accident on Saturday north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, near Sandy Point lighthouse.

The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) launched vessel surface surfaces and are using side-scan sonar to locate the missing boater, according to NRP Sgt. Art Windemuth.

The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted to a capsized vessel on Saturday afternoon. A distress call was also sent to Anne Arundel County 911’s dispatch center. Both of these calls ended before a location could be given to the emergency. But coast guard members were able to determine the general direction of the call, and began the search.

By about 3:45 p.m. Saturday, rescuers had located Taylor Rogers, 25, of Salisbury, and Daniel Denike, 46, of Laurel, in the Chesapeake Bay, northeast of Sandy Point. They were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Rogers was treated for hypothermia, but Denike’s injuries proved fatal.

A third victim, Tyler Cordrey, 25, of Eden, remains missing.

An area search by members of the NRP, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard combed the sea throughout the night and Sunday for Cordrey. They found the capsized, 18-foot Precision boat in about 40 feet of water by using sonar.

But the search continues for Cordrey.

Updated (Dec. 18)—Two victims were recovered and rescuers searched for a third after a boat overturned around 2:50 p.m. Saturday in the waters near the Bay Bridge.

On Sunday morning, The Capital reported that a woman was treated for hypothermia and a man died after their sailboat capsized.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Capt. James Rostek said that a 911 call regarding the incident came in Saturday from a person in the water but the call was quickly lost.

"One victim is under CPR at this time, the other is unconscious and unresponsive," Rostek told Patch on Saturday afternoon. "We're looking for a third victim at this time."
