Top 5: Week of Rescuers, Babies, Head-Shaving

A volunteer firefighter from Pasadena was one of two local men who heroically rescued . The rescuer told Patch how shocked he was to see the man jump off the Severn River Bridge.

Special Beginnings Birth & Women's Center will celebrate its 15th anniversary in May, and last week celebrated catching its 1,500th baby. Benjamin Linker, the son of Kaely and Christopher Linker, was born at the Arnold birth center and caught by David Paad—the region's only male midwife.

An Annapolis man was arrested after allegedly driving around  displaying a sex toy to women. Jacob Lee Bovia, 28, of the 900 block of Vanburen Street, was charged by Anne Arundel County police with three counts of indecent exposure and two counts of disorderly conduct.

A ceiling collapsed while firefighters worked to extinguish a house fire early Monday morning, but the residents escaped without injuries. One firefighter reportedly sustained a burn on the side of his face and was hospitalized. Another firefighter sustained a small burn on his neck, but was not hospitalized. The house sustained about $175,000 in damage. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but is believed to be accidental.

A head-shaving fundraiser took place at  in Arnold, and among the stars were a student from who raised more than $5,000. More than 60 signed up to shave their heads at the event. The funds raised go toward the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding research for childhood cancer, according to the organization's website.
