Anne Arundel Among Top in State Workforce Growth

The county ties for second place in Maryland's workforce growth between 2010-2011.

 

Anne Arundel County's workforce grew at a pace that puts it on track with the best in the state last year.

New statistics released by the U.S. Department of Labor this week indicate that Anne Arundel County's workforce grew 1.5 percent between June 2010 and June 2011. It was outpaced only by Harford County, which grew by 2.8 percent.

Sheila Watkins, the bureau’s regional commissioner, noted that Harford County recorded the largest employment gain, up 2.8 percent over the year. Anne Arundel and Howard counties followed with gains of 1.5 percent each.

The largest employment decrease was recorded in Frederick County, which lost 1.4 percent of its jobs since June 2010. No other county had an employment decline greater than 0.4 percent.

Anne Arundel County was among the top 100 fastest-growing workforces in the country, placing 82nd on that chart.

Overall, Maryland's workforce grew by an average of 0.5 percent during the time frame.

  • Baltimore: -0.2
  • Baltimore City: -0.4
  • Frederick: -1.4
  • Harford: +2.8
  • Howard: +1.5
  • Montgomery: +1.1
