5th Quarter 5K Draws Friendly Faces

Athletes weren't the only ones to show their support for 5th Quarter.

Teens, moms, dads and student athletes all joined in for a 5K run around Broadneck Park Saturday.

5th Quarter, a program to keep teens safe at Broadneck High after big sports games hosted by Broadneck Evangelical Presbyterian Church and Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks.

On Saturday, 5th Quarter hosted a 5K run to raise funds for the program's operations, and had 130 sponsored runners turn out to help.

"It was a great, unexpected turnout," said event organizer Courtney Della. "We had 130 runners, and [Broadneck High School] track coach Brianna Kelly brought the track team and told them that the 5K was optional for practice."

Athletes weren't the only ones to show their support—the winner of the female 30-39 age group category won in her class while pushing a double stroller with her children, Della said.
