AACC Cancels Volleyball Midseason

The college's volleyball team was forced to cancel the remainder of its season due to low player numbers.

Anne Arundel Community College's womens volleyball team has canceled the rest of its season. They simply didn't have enough players on the court, the athletics director said.

The minimum number of players required for a volleyball team is six, and AACC's team had seven players at the start of its season. AACC's Athletics Director Bruce Springer would not comment on the current number of players, though he simply said it wasn't enough to play.

"Our numbers have just been down since the beginning," Springer said. "We've tried everything we can, but it just hasn't worked. But we're moving forward and looking ahead to next season."

The troubled team had suffered 10 losses and only one win so far, with another dozen games scheduled for the rest of the season, which started on Sept 5.

Frank, when females reach age 18, we call them women. So in this story, it should be the AACC women's volleyball team. I don't see you calling it the AACC boys' soccer team. Please join the 21st century.

Whoa, whoa, it was a simple oversight, not a derogatory classification. I've fixed it in the story. Thanks for bringing to my attention.

Thank you for fixing it. I do find it a bit disingenuous to classify an inappropriate word choice as "a simple oversight," though....I would imagine a journalist would choose each word with care!
