AACC Cyber Team Continues Streak

A 12-member team from Anne Arundel is continuing its rise to fame in the world of cyber forensics.

Anne Arundel Community College's cyber forensics team beat out 20 other teams in a national competition that tested computer infiltration abilities.

The 12-member team composed of AACC students includes:

  • Colby T. Baxter of Church Hill
  • Jesse A. Brogan of Edgewater
  • Brian E. Compher of Baltimore
  • Mark Covington Sr. of Annapolis
  • Robert Davis of Severna Park
  • Daniel S. Herington of Odenton
  • Marcelle Lee of Severna Park
  • Rafael Mation of Baltimore
  • Derrik M. Oates of Silver Spring
  • Dustin B. Shirley of Odenton
  • Sameer Singal of Severna Park
  • Chris S. Woolwine of Pasadena

The team earned a regional placement in the 2013 National CyberWatch Center Mid-Atlantic Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) Finals, according to a press release from the community college.

AACC's team along with seven others will compete this weekend in Laurel in the next round of the competition. 

The community college's team has regularly placed highly in the national competition. In 2012, they ranked as the best community college in the world, and placed 23rd overall in the Department of Defense's Cyber Crime Center's (DC3) Digital Forensics Challenge.

AACC officials have made cybersecurity training a priority over the past few years, and they've expanded their course offerings. The college's newest location in Severn has dedicated space for training in the discipline of cyberforensics.
