AACC Hosts New Gallery of 'Evolving Structures'

Three artists are investigating the permutations of hand-built and wall-mounted forms.

The following press release was issued to Patch by Anne Arundel Community College.

Anne Arundel Community College presents “Evolving Structures,” wall reliefs and paintings by Rachel Hellmann, James von Minor and Mary Walker, a gallery that extends from Nov. 8 to Dec. 7 at the college's Cade Center for Fine Arts Gallery.

These three artists are investigating the permutations of hand-built and wall-mounted forms. All three artists have a coherent architectural underpinning to their painted and constructed wall pieces.

Rachel Hellmann presents the most rigorous study of painting’s relationship to grid permutations, from her iced and formal “Whitescapes” to her recent prismatically shaped canvases of understated elegance.

James von Minor has an ongoing fascination with the interplay of painting and relief elements, where the painting’s basic structure is amplified by 3-D utilitarian objects, from knobs and wood lathing to a clothespin.

Mary Walker assembles organically-structured “islands” of construction debris across the plane of the wall in her subtly colored “Archipelago.”

The artists will give a talk at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 8. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday evening. For more information, contact Chris Mona at cpmona@aacc.edu or call 410-777-7028.
