AACC Names New Mens Lacrosse Coach

The mens lacrosse team will be led by Dave Earl starting this season.

has announced hiring Dave Earl to lead the Pioneers mens lacrosse team.

“We are looking forward to the energy and enthusiasm that Dave Earl will bring to our mens lacrosse program,” Bruce Springer, coordinator of athletics at AACC, said in a release by the college.

Earl has been the head coach of ’s junior varsity lacrosse since 2010, compiling a 39-7 record and leading the team to a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Championship in 2010.

He also was a former coach and talent evaluator for the Annapolis Hawks Lacrosse Club from 2008-2009. While in college at Hofstra and Salisbury University, Earl played both midfield and attack positions.

Matt Hogan, assistant principal at St. Mary’s High School, was enthusiastic about Earl being AACC's new lacrosse coach. Hogan was assistant coach along with Earl at the high school.

“Coach Earl has been an asset to the St. Mary’s lacrosse program and in the individual player and team development. He is an outstanding teacher, loves the players and works hard to continue to develop himself and those around him. He will be great for AACC," Hogan said in the release.

Earl was appreciative of the trust AACC placed in him to lead the team this year.

“My family and I are thrilled to begin this new chapter in our life and become part of the AACC community. I am excited to get on the field this fall and meet our players,” he said in a release. “We have begun the process of planning for fall ball and our off-season strength-and-conditioning program. In addition, we have started recruiting players for this year and for next.”

AACC Coach Griffiths Named 'Man of the Year'

AACC women’s lacrosse coach Jim Griffiths was honored Aug. 4 at the Annapolis Touchdown Club awards ceremony as the Hero’s Lacrosse “Man of the Year.”

Griffiths has coached women’s lacrosse since 2004 and compiled a 126-25 record with seven conference titles and just as many national appearances. His teams won two national championships and captured the runner-up trophy three times.

The teams have led the nation academically while winning the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Academic Team of the Year award for the past four seasons. Forty-three of his student-athletes have moved on to play lacrosse at four-year schools, according to a release.

Griffiths also is an accomplished coach of the Pioneer women’s soccer and cross country teams. In addition, he served for six years as president of NJCAA Lacrosse Coaches’ Association and for nine years as Region 20 Lacrosse Coaches’ Association president.

“Getting an award like this makes me realize that I have been very lucky to have good players who have been very committed and loyal, and that I was smart enough to surround myself with very good assistant coaches throughout the years,” Griffiths said in a release.
