AACC President Smith Prepares for Retirement

The college's president will retire on Aug. 1.

With 18 years as president of Anne Arundel Community College now behind her, Martha Smith will soon be packing her things and turning over the reigns to a new president.

Smith's 18-year tenure as president of AACC ends on Aug. 1, when will take over the position.

The Capital spoke with Smith, her colleagues, and other local officials about the legacy that she will leave behind.

Smith told The Capital that she's unsure what path she'll take after retirement, but is looking into joining area volunteer groups. She said she wants to stay involved, and with a five-year consulting deal with the college, she will still be involved with big-picture activities at AACC.

the college's Board of Trustees shared tears and memories while thanking Smith for her service to the college. They also gave her a rocking chair as a retirement gift.
