AACC's WLAX Team Opens Season With Win

Anne Arundel Community College's women's lacrosse team began its 2013 season with a victory over Howard Community College on Monday.

 Anne Arundel Community College’s women’s lacrosse team opened their 2013 season on Monday, March 11 with a MD JUCO Conference game at Howard CC.

The first game for each team, Howard was first to strike scoring less than a minute into the first half. AACC would answer and the teams would be tied again at 2-2 before the Pioneers went on a run, scoring the next four goals. The Pioneers carried a 10-6 lead into the recess.

Holding Howard to four goals in the second half the Pioneers would add six of their own to win their first game 16-10.

Sophomore Meghenn Jackson and freshman Shannon O’Neal led the AACC offense, each contributing five goals and one assist. Midfielders Tyler Hebb and Sara Boothe each scored two goals in the win. Kayla Hertz added one goal and one assist. Ashlynn Parks also contributed one goal.

Goalkeeper Brittani Biddinger recorded eight saves in her first collegiate game.

The Pioneers open the 2013 season with a 1-0 overall record and 1-0 conference mark. They are ranked third in the nation behind defending NJCAA champion Onondaga CC and 2012 runner-up Monroe CC.

AACC women’s lacrosse will play their next game, their home opener, on Sunday, March 17 at 10am against Broome Community College. The following night the Pioneers host CCBC Catonsville in a MD JUCO Conference contest at 5pm.
