The Pioneers won over Brookdale, but lost to Catonsville in their next match.

AACC men’s soccer opened their season over the Labor Day holiday weekend with a road game against Frederick and their home opener against Brookdale Community College. The Pioneers started their season strong winning both games for the 2-0 season start.

On Friday afternoon the Pioneer men’s soccer team set out for Frederick for a 3 p.m. MD JUCO conference contest. Frederick jumped on the board first with the game’s first goal but Anne Arundel’s Brady Ellis would score late in the first half to tie the game. Ellis would again find the net in the second half to give the Pioneers the lead and the 2-1 victory.

On Sunday morning the Pioneers hosted Brookdale CC from Lincroft, New Jersey. After a very successful 2011 season, Brookdale entered the 2012 season ranked 10 in NJCAA Division III.

The Pioneers jumped on the Jersey Blues early, scoring in the first 10 minutes of the first half with a goal from Brady Ellis assisted by Alex Moore. Anne Arundel took the 1-0 lead into halftime but Brookdale responded quickly in the second half to tie the game. With the clock winding down both defenses stiffened and Pioneer goalie Tyler Simpson came up with huge saves to deny Brookdale the advantage. In the final minutes of the game Tyler Spence connected with Matt Matousek for the Pioneers second goal of the game.

AACC went on to win their second straight game with a 2-1 score.

On Wednesday, AACC hosted Community College of Baltimore County at Catonsville on Wednesday evening. Catonsville edged the Pioneers in a physical contest that ended 2-1 in favor of the Cardinals.

AACC played a tough game in their loss to fellow conference member Catonsville and will certainly be tested again Friday, when they travel to Prince George’s Community College (1-2, 1-0) for a 6 p.m. game time.
