AACC Welcomes New President Dawn Lindsay

Lindsay's first day as president was Wednesday.

Wednesday was the first day at work at (AACC) for the sixth and newest president, Dawn Lindsay.

, and was the former president of Glendale Community College in California. She took over the position at AACC from , who was president for 18 years—the longest term of any former president at the college.

Lindsay was selected by the college's Board of Trustees in April from among 120 candidates nationwide (see video). Her starting salary is $234,500.

Lindsay told Patch during her confirmation that her immediate goals as president are to listen to the faculty and staff before making any plans. She said she wants to get to know what makes AACC great.

"I think it would be a little presumptuous of me to come in and have ideas, because the college is so solid," Lindsay said. "I think my first goal is learning how this college has turned into an academic institution with such rigor and excellence and passion."

Lindsay comes at a time of expansion in the college's history. opens this year for fall classes, and the Arnold campus' that will increase its size by 40 percent.

The public will get a formal chance to meet with Lindsay while celebrating the college’s 50th anniversary at its 2012 gala event on Oct. 13 at the Westin Baltimore Washington Airport. 

"The gala offers an opportunity to meet AACC’s sixth president, Dr. Dawn Lindsay, and to discover ways that AACC is working to continue to meet community needs and workforce demands," according to a press release.
