Arnold Resident Wins Car in Magothy River Middle School Raffle

The school raised more than $7,000 in the first-time fundraiser.

For those who bought a ticket for the big raffle sponsored by Magothy River Middle School Parent, Teacher, Student Organization last week, a $50 shot at a new car was a dream. For lucky winner Tom Gingerich, it was a true gift.

Last week, the Arnold resident had more than 200,000 miles on his car and he knew it wasn’t going to last much longer. This week, he has a brand new Hyundai Elantra, with tax and tags paid for.

The raffle was a part of the Magothy River Middle School’s PTSO Marlin Family Night. The “out-of-the-box” idea to raffle off a car was the brainstorm of parent volunteer Margie Goldberg.

“We raised over $7,000 for the school, which is great considering what a risk this was,” said Goldberg. “No one had done anything like this before, and we were thrilled to actually make money in this economy.”
