Around AACC: Athletes Recognized for Achievement in 2010-11

The National Junior College Athletic Association recognizes four AACC teams as "All-Academic" for 2010-11.

athletes were recently recognized by the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) as winners of the 2010-2011 NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award and the 2010-2011 NJCAA All-Academic Teams.

Jenny Ashurst, who played on both the AACC Pioneers Lacrosse and Soccer teams, was awarded for “Exemplary Academic Achievement” with her GPA of 3.62.

The following AACC athletic teams were also recognized as NJCAA All-Academic Teams:

  • Women’s Lacrosse with a GPA of 3.43;
  • Women’s Cross Country with a GPA of 3.30;
  • Women’s Soccer with a GPA of 3.24; and
  • Men’s Golf  with a GPA of 3.36.

 

Members of the Women's Lacrosse team this year were: Courtney Windsor, Elizabeth Petro, Cori Karoly, Elizabeth Hicks, Jenny Ashurst, Erika Arrildt, Cloey Henchcliffe, Erica McMahon, Nina Herron, Rebecca Hicks, Samantha Adams, Karlee Zywusko, Mary Milligan, Megan Green, Brittany Kincer.

Three Women's Lacrosse Pioneers were also named to the 2011 NJCAA All-American Team:  

  • Cloey Henchcliffe, sophomore midfield;
  • Erica McMahon, sophomore attack; and
  • Mary Milligan, freshman attack.

 

Members of the Women's Cross Country team this year were: Shannon Fletcher, Erica McMahon, Mary Milligan, Rachel Sattler, Danielle Stracke, Sarah Wagner, Courtney Windsor, and Karlee Zywusko.

Members of the Women's Soccer team this year were: Cori Kolody, Emily Hubbard, Jessica Ruyter, Erika Aarildt, Cloey Henchcliffe Jacqueline Lledo, Jenny Ashurst, Elizabeth Hicks, Samantha Adams, Jaclyn Nucci, Brittany Kincer, Angela Vilone, Rebecca Hicks, Alexa Moore, Alysha Sears, Kayla Warf, Devin Wells.

Members of the Men's Golf team this year were:  Steven Clouse, Steven Pimpo, Jeremy Seay, Chase Smith.

Over 1,470 NJCAA student athletes met the requirements for individual academic honors while over 370 teams qualified for academic team recognition. 

The 2010-2011 season marks the 28th year the NJCAA has recognized the success of its student-athletes in the classroom since 1983.
