Around AACC: Week of Aug. 22

Some classes begin this week and with the return of AACC students comes numerous activities for all ages this week.

The month of August brings back the students who have taken the summer off. To welcome everyone back and all of the new students to the Arnold campus, the Office of Student Life and the Student Association Campus Activities Board has planned a variety of free activities this week.

Mon.11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Caricature Hats will be provided for free in the Quad.

Tues. – Noon, Hypnotist Chris Jones performs an interactive show held in the Student Union dining hall.

Weds. – Noon, an outdoor concert will be held featuring Baltimore’s Nelly’s Echo, an accomplished singer-songwriter and guitarist originally from Nigeria, Africa who blends soul, reggae and blues. He will appear in the academic courtyard bordered by Truxal Library and the Science and Humanities buildings. (Rain site: dining hall).

Thurs. – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lazer Tag competition will be held in the CADE Amphitheatre.

Fri. – 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. A “Foam Party” will be held in the Quad.

Sat. – 7:30-10 p.m., A free stargazing “Community Observing Night,” family event will be sponsored by the AACC Astronomy Club. A club meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. that is open to the public, followed one hour after sunset by stargazing. Be sure and bring your own telescope and binoculars or use one of the eight AACC telescopes to view planets, stars and the moon, weather permitting. Ongoing now through Sept. 9 - 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday thru Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday. A free art exhibit titled “The Art of Design,” features artworks by AACC architecture, interior design and construction management students at the Pascal Center for Performing Arts Gallery. 

The exhibit includes works from the 3-D printer (skylines of well-known cities from around the world), miniature replications of classic chairs designed in the past 130 years, soft sculptures, architectural models, original molding designs for baseboards or cornices and a study in concrete.
