The artwork of Sergio Alvarez, an 82-year-old student at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), is among the highlights of the National Hispanic Heritage Month art pieces on display.
Alvarez, who was once a surgeon in a Mexican jungle, according to The Capital, has created richly detailed sculptures. After retiring as a surgeon, he dedicated the next nine years of his life to the arts, and came to AACC to learn more.
Alvarez' art will be on display until the end of the week at the college's Pascal Center's gallery, where there will be a special presentation for him at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Throughout October, the Pascal Center will feature works of students and faculty members at AACC.
