Arts Magnet Classes to Be Offered at Broadneck High Next Fall

An information session is being held Tuesday night at Old Mill High School and applications for current eighth- and ninth-graders are due by Dec. 2.

The county’s first is scheduled to open next fall with classes at and high schools. An information session for parents and students will be held on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Old Mill High School, located at 600 Patriot Lane in Millersville.

Annapolis High already hosts the International Baccalaureate (IB) program but Broadneck High does not currently have a magnet program—only an that is also supposed to launch in the fall of 2012. (Eventually, all high schools in the county will have their own signature programs.)

Discussion topics at the information session will include the application and audition process for current eighth- and ninth-graders for the 2012-2013 school year. Students must apply online on the Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) website by noon on Dec. 2.

The new high school PVA program will start next school year, contingent on approval of the 2012–13 budget for AACPS. The county currently has two PVA magnets at Wiley H. Bates Middle and Brooklyn Park Middle. Last month, the for an addition to Annapolis High that will provide new studios for art, dance and recording.
