Belvedere Students Sample Life After School

Students were treated to a variety of career options for a college and career-themed week this month.

Belvedere Elementary students got a chance to sample different careers during a college-themed week at the school.

Dressed in their university's colors, teachers greeted students this month for a week of lessons and events themed around higher education and careers after school. The event was part of the school's college and career readiness initiative, according to assistant principal Tamara Kelly.

"Each class was assigned a university, and they researched the location, mascot, areas of study, and they even made banners for outside their classrooms," Kelly said.

Pre-kindergarten through second grade students participated in an assembly where guest speakers including veterinarians, a police officer, a martial arts instructor, and a biologist, spoke to children about their careers, how they got there, and what makes them love their jobs.

Students in grades three through five focused on science, technology, engineering and math based careers, including hydro-geology, medical animation, accounting, physical therapy and environmental science, Kelly said.
