BHS Student Named National Merit Scholar

Caroline Plott was one of three students in the county chosen for the award.

A  senior was one of just three Anne Arundel County Public Schools students named National Merit Scholars on Wednesday.

Caroline Plott, a BHS senior, was chosen among 15,000 students from across the country and 56 in Maryland. The students will receive single-payment scholarships worth $2,500 each to pursue post-secondary studies.  

The following students earned the honor based on their excellent academic records, standardized test performances, school and community leadership, essay submissions, and high school recommendations:

  • Caroline Plott of , who plans to study biomedical engineering.
  • Moya Shpuntoff of , who plans to study communications and design.  
  • Albert Protin of , who plans to study engineering.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will announce another 4,800 scholarship winners later this spring and this summer, according to a release. A total of $35 million is scheduled to be awarded to more than 8,300 high school seniors in this year's competition.
