Board of Education Appoints New Citizen Advisory Committee

Lisa Nolan and Tania Howard will represent the Broadneck cluster of schools on the newly structured panel. The first meeting, which is open to the public, will be held Oct. 13 at 9 a.m. in Annapolis.

Two county residents will represent the Broadneck cluster of schools, serving as liaisons between local schools and the Board of Education as part of the newly structured Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC).

Those representing the Broadneck cluster are Lisa Nolan (elementary) and Tania Howard (secondary).

The newly appointed individuals will serve on a 29-member panel that will work with county parent groups and the board to address key educational issues. According to a release from Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS), the CAC includes two representatives from each of the 12 high school clusters—one representing elementary schools and one representing secondary schools—along with two at-large representatives.

The new executive committee was created after AACPS Superintendent Kevin Maxwell issued an administrative regulation in July . This new structure was implemented just months after Broadneck resident in February.

The CAC members representing local schools were selected from more than 70 applicants countywide, according to the school board’s president, Patricia Nalley.

“We are very pleased with the outpouring of interest in these positions,” Nalley said in a release.

The new CAC will hold its first meeting Oct. 13 at 9 a.m. at the Parham Building in Annapolis, located at 2644 Riva Rd. Meetings are open to the public.

● Annapolis Cluster: John A. Sabatini (elementary); and Mary Kathleen Peddigree (secondary)
● Arundel Cluster: Kevin McCoy (elementary); and Tracy Mathews (secondary)
● Broadneck Cluster: Lisa Nolan (elementary); and Tania Howard (secondary)
● Chesapeake Cluster: Betty Colangelo (elementary); and LaToya Staten (secondary)
● Glen Burnie Cluster: Barbara Hawkins (elementary); and Susan Stokes (secondary)
● Meade Cluster: Kimberly McKinley (elementary); and Ping Huang (secondary)
● North County Cluster: Lisa Crittenden (elementary); and Selene Hurley (secondary)
● Northeast Cluster: Chris Ross (elementary); and Phil Kijak (secondary)
● Old Mill Cluster: Randi Bulla (elementary); and Susan Downey (secondary)
● Severna Park Cluster: Thurman Reynolds (elementary); and Michiko Martin (secondary)
● South River Cluster: Jenny Beard (elementary); and Synthia Shilling (secondary)
● Southern Cluster: Lindy Marks (elementary); and Carol Dillon Kissal (secondary)
