Broadneck High Ranks Fifth in Math Competition

The Broadneck team scores in the upper half of the 14 schools competing in the High School Mathematics Competition held at Anne Arundel Community College.

The top three schools in this month's Anne Arundel County High School Mathematics Competition were the same as , but Broadneck High ranked fifth out of the 14 teams participating from both private and public schools.

came out on top this time while Chesapeake Science Point Charter School took second place and won third place again at the competition held at (AACC) on Nov. 5.

Organized by AACC, the competition has five matches and each match is divided into two phases. First, students worked individually to answer six questions during a 30-minute period. Three students achieved a perfect score, according to AACC: Jack Andraka from North County High School, Willy Griffin from Key School and Davis Wootton-Klebanoff from .

Then, students worked in teams to answer another set of six questions in 30 minutes during the second phase of the competition. According to a release from AACC, three teams achieved a perfect score on this part of the competition last month but only Severn School earned that accomplishment this month.

AACC said school scores are computed by adding the best team score to the average of the top three individuals’ scores.
