Broadneck High Soccer Players Receive Recognition as Scholar All-Americans

Cody Niedermeier was named National High School Scholar Athlete of the Year and recognized along with Samantha Dean by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American.

Two students received honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for being High School Scholar All-Americans. Samantha Dean was one of four girls in the state recognized and was one of three boys in Maryland.

Niedermeier, who carried a 4.19 weighted cumulative GPA, was also named National High School Scholar Athlete of the Year by the NSCAA. According to a release, he has signed with the University of Maryland as a soccer goalkeeper and will graduate from Broadneck High in January to enroll at Maryland for the spring semester.

Players are nominated by their coaches. According to the NSCAA, the criteria for eligibility are:

• A minimum of a 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale) cumulative GPA through the junior year
• Outstanding community involvement
• Excellence in high school soccer.

While students must meet the first two criteria, their soccer accomplishments are the deciding factors in obtaining the recognition.
