Broadneck High Writer Recognized with Prestigious Award

Laura Sharp, a senior at BHS, was awarded for her flash-fiction "I Live for the Darkness."

Broadneck High School senior Laura  Sharp was named a recipient of the 2013 Scholastic Art & Writing Honorable Mention Award for the Northeast Writing Region—consisting of Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.

Sharp was selected as a winner for her flash-fiction, titled I Live for the Darkness, as well her poem, The Artist, Potential, Speaking Of Freedom.

Since 1923, the awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated writers while they were teenagers, including: Truman Capote, Bernard Malamud, Joyce Maynard, Joyce Carol Oates, and Sylvia Plath.

Sharp is an AP student at Broadneck and an accomplished writer, currently serving as one of the Editors-in-Chief of Broadneck’s award-winning literary magazine, Imprints. Sharp said she plans to attend University of Maryland Baltimore County next fall.
