Broadneck Literary Magazine Brings Smiles

The school's newest literary magazine was recently published by students.

's (BHS) literary magazine  is chock-full of student submissions this year, and it's a labor of love by students.

Patch caught up with the creators of this year's magazine on Monday morning, during one of their last meetings of the year.

"It was special for me personally because last year we didn't have enough money or really, good submissions to share in the magazine," said Laura Sharp, a junior. "I'm really happy we were able to make it this year."

This edition of Chromotherapy was created as part of an elective at BHS overseen by advisor and English teacher Maureen Thomas.

The magazine was pieced together from dozens of student literary submissions, and then laid-out in professional software for publication.

"I think we had some really strong submissions, it came from every aspect of student. We spent a lot of time trimming it down to get the best stuff," said Ripley Dwyer, a senior.

The magazine will be entered in the National Council of Teachers of English’s Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines  where previous issues earned ratings of “excellent.”

The Creative Writing Program promotes the arts through their annual magazine and monthly Arts page in the school newspaper, The Tribruin. Plans are in the works to add a webpage/blog and another publication, featuring work from students across the county.

To purchase a copy of the magazine, email English teacher Maureen Thomas at mrthomas1@aacps.org or find the group on Facebook: Creative Writing @ BHS.
