Broadneck Wrestler Gets Second Chance to Finish Season

Senior wrestler Collin Harrell will have a chance to compete in an all-star meet.

After being ejected from a recent wrestling meet and escorted from the building by police, it looked like Collin Harrell's final days as a wrestler were over.

But the Maryland State Wrestling Association (MSWA) has turned his fate around, The Baltimore Sun reports.

Harrell will have a chance to compete in the Haswell Franklin Maryland Senior All-Star Classic on Tuesday. The tournament includes the best players from both private and public schools.

after an argument with a school administrator over his mother, who was also escorted from the building. Melloni Harrell told Patch she was merely trying to give her son a water bottle after he lost his first match.

But when Collin Harrell heard that his mother was being asked to leave, he became upset. Security and police then became involved and escorted him out.

Anne Arundel County Supervisor of County Athletics Greg LeGrand said it was one of several incidents at that wrestling event, and that faculty and staff were stretched thin. LeGrand also said the apparent outburst was uncharacteristic of Harrell.

After being ejected, Harrell could not finish his match and did not qualify for the state tournament. That would have been his last match as a high school wrestler.

But MSWA president Neil Adleberg told The Baltimore Sun they decided to intervene.

"I talked to the 4A-3A coaches asked if they would mind if we invited Collin," Adleberg told The Baltimore Sun. "They all know the situation, and they all were supportive of the idea of letting him end his career on the mat. Now, Collin is excited and the coaches are excited."

The tournament will be Tuesday at McDaniel College in Westminster.
