Broadneck's Got Talent

Talented Broadneck High School students perform for standing room only crowd.

High school in general is seen as a time when most people prefer to blend into the crowd, out of the public eye. However this past Friday, the exceptions to that rule got up on stage and gave it their all at Broadneck High School’s Annual Talent Show.

Headed up by the Junior Class as a way to raise prom money, the Talent Show quickly sold out of programs and tickets, and even came to holding people in the lobby until somebody would exit the auditorium. Conservatively, it is estimated that the Junior Class raised at least $3,500 purely on ticket sales and snacks.

The Broadneck High students in the show had been rehearsing on stage three to four days during the week prior to performing in front of a 400+ crowd.

“It was a lot of fun to be on stage,” said show participant Caroline Watt. “It was still a little nerve racking, but I had a great time.”

One of the most memorable performances of the evening was by Kennedy Stephens, a Broadneck sophomore, who literally stopped the show with her performance of the hit tune “Listen,” sung by Beyonce in the movie "Dreamgirls."

Also performing were a few of the well-known Broadneck bands, like Capstone, Nitrix, and Animal Orchestra.

“It’s a pretty big crowd, so we’re all a little nervous,” said Nitrix bass player Connor Hocking as he waited in line backstage. “I’m still pretty confident, I mean we know our songs really well.

For the entire show the audience was in good spirits. Whether a performer would come on stage and not do their best or had the best performance of their life, members of the crowd applauded just the same. No one was booed off stage, and most of those that got up on stage left feeling rather good about themselves.

Congratulations to the following students who also participated in the show: Shaneirah Colbert, Pace McConkie, Sam Loschiavo, Lakeria Little, Hana Baker, Alex Ramos, Alex Gagesi, Ingvar Jacobson, Ben Fisher, Jonnie Curtis, Christina Dawson, Austin Brown, Andrew Bilbery, Anastasia Ramos, Rachel McCready, Bree Daniels, Jocelyn Faro, Lizl Hartlein, Erin Kemp, Caitlin Martinez, Chris Kep, Christina Powell, Pablo Escobosa, Anna Brown, Amber Cambell, Dori Lee, and Evan Cooper.
