Class of 2011: Chris Hudson

You can call this Broadneck senior a scholar, an entertainer, a leader, or you can just call him "Mr. President."

Editor's Note:  This is the last installment of our "Class of 2011" series. We thank each of our seven seniors for sharing their talents and dreams with us.

Chris Hudson, son of Anita and Dan Hudson of Annapolis, has taken on many roles at Broadneck High School.

He is president of the Class of 2011, the president of the National Honor Society, and the vice president of the school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society. He is on the school’s track and cross-country teams. He is a Ben Carson Scholar, twice awarded, an Eagle Scout, and the “de-facto” leader of the school’s highly regarded orchestra, often standing and directing at the podium when a music teacher is out or is rehearsing small groups. For that he earned the school's National School Orchestra award.

His leadership roles have earned him the nickname “Mr. President,” a role he is very comfortable with.

“I love public speaking and working with different groups with all kinds of viewpoints,” said Hudson, who also served as the host of the first "Mr. Broadneck" competition this spring.

Today Hudson is leading his Class of 2011 through graduation at the Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro. He will attend Catholic University of America in the fall and major in politics/foreign affairs.

“I want to study different countries and cultures and their relationships with each other,” explained Hudson. “I look forward to examining different doctrines and philosophies and how the world works.”

Though Hudson has been wowing audiences with his performances this year in the school’s production of “West Side Story” and “Romeo and Juliet,” he is realistic about the chance of having a successful career on the stage.

“I will definitely stick with musical theater,” said Hudson. “I have always liked it, but your chance for professional success is one in a million.”

Instead he will focus on his education in foreign affairs. He hopes to join the Navy (his father is a Navy captain) and fly airplanes.

“I definitely want to serve my country soon,” said Hudson. After that, he hopes to perhaps merge his  talents by becoming a television broadcaster.
