Family Fun at Severn River Middle

Annual fundraiser brings out families to dine and dance for a good cause.

Whether they were basket browsing, taco eating, or dancing to the oldies, students, staff, and parents from Severn River Middle School were recently enjoying a great night of food and fun.

The event was the annual Family Fun Night, sponsored by the school’s PTSO with proceeds benefitting the school’s technology program.

“You can’t imagine how much not only new equipment costs, but how much it is just to replace bulbs or other parts to the technology we already have,” said PTSO President Melissa Bowen. “This is one event that is dedicated to raising enough money to keep up with the technological needs of the school for our students.”

Guests dined on the tasty offerings of Chevy’s in Annapolis, a hit with parents and kids alike.

The evening also included a silent auction of baskets with various themes, like sports teams, coffee or baking, or even gift cards from local businesses. Families and staff were asked to donate items, and PTSO volunteers arranged them in a beautiful presentation.

Participants walked throughout the tables lined with everything from cooking utensils and candles to even reserved parking spaces for crowded SRMS events.

The crowd was entertained throughout the evening by musical numbers from the SRMS Teacher Band. Lead singer is Sid Molofsky, assistant principal, who had the room swinging to old favorites like “Brown Eyed Girl,” “My Girl,” and  his legendary rendition of “Mustang Sally.”

The band includes present and former staff members, including the recently retired Lou Norbeck who spent the evening catching up with colleagues, students, and parents.

“We appreciate the efforts of the PTSO,” said principal June Eyett. “They work so hard to make sure this kind of event is fun for everyone.”
