The girls team won a triumphant first match.

very first girls basketball team debuted their talent, sportsmanship and teamwork this week with a winning 28-8 matchup against Generals Highway.

The first girls county athletic team in the school’s 30-year history is comprised of fourth- and fifth-grade girls playing in the Anne Arundel 10U County League.

Coach Kelly Hugo of the Chesapeake Bay Retrievers showered the team with praises, saying each girl has a different range of talent and something to contribute to the team. Not to be outdone by the girls team, Chesapeake Academy’s boys team is in their second year of play at the school and showcasing their talents with a 2-1 record for the season so far this year. Last year’s boys team won the Anne Arundel 10U County League in their inaugural season.

“It’s encouraging as a coach and a parent to see the boys team going so far out of their way to help each other out,” said Kelly Ballentine. “We have some players who are extremely talented and others who have never played before coming together on the same team and learning from each other. It makes me proud to have my own child be a part of the team and school.”

Chesapeake Academy girls and boys basketball games are played on Saturdays through January and February respectively. For a complete team schedule, please visit www.chesapeakeacademy.com.
