Golden Age TV Star Visits Broadneck High Musical Cast

A star from the 1960s Buddy Deane Show will visit Broadneck on Saturday.

Broadneck High School actors in the upcoming production of Hairspray will get a chance to meet a star of the Buddy Deane Show on Saturday.

Marge Pearce of the original 1960s Buddy Deane Show, a TV dance program upon which the musical Hairspray was based on, will visit the cast on Saturday to talk with the students about her experience.

The Buddy Deane Show was a teen dance television show aired on WJZ-TV from 1957 until 1964. The show was taken off the air because station WJZ was unable to integrate black and white dancers, according to a release.

Broadneck High School’s production of the Broadway musical Hairspray, kicks off this month. Emily Cory, Andrew Lincoln, and Vanessa Pearson direct the musical, which serves as a social commentary on injustices in 1960s American society. 

The play opens Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. For more informaton, check the event listing.
