LACROSSE: AACC Falls to Monroe in National Tournament

Three lady Pioneers were named to the 2012 All-Tournament team.

The following article was submitted to the Broadneck Patch by Duane Herr, who works closely with the athletics department at  (AACC).

The Pioneers, Anne Arundel’s womens lacrosse team, finished its 2012 season with a 17-2 record after falling 6-7 in the first round of the national tournament to Monroe Community College of New York over the weekend.

Karlee Zywusko scored the first goal of the game for the Pioneers, tying it at 1-1. After Monroe added another goal, Meghenn Jackson gave AACC their first lead by scoring back to back goals. Another goal for Monroe tied the game at 3-3 going into halftime.

Out of the half, Monroe scored four unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead. The Pioneers put together a late rally with goals from Mary Milligan and Meghenn Jackson. Jackson scored Anne Arundel’s sixth goal with 47 seconds left in the game to bring the Pioneers within one at 7-6. Jackson got another opportunity with 24 seconds remaining, but the Monroe goalie came up with the save. Monroe ran out the clock to advance to the championship game.

Jackson finished the game with four goals and one assist. Karlee Zywusko scored a goal and Mary Milligan added a goal. Brittany Kincer made 10 saves in the game.

Zywusko, Jackson and Kincer were named to the 2012 All-Tournament team for their outstanding play in the tournament.

Onondaga CC defeated Monroe CC 6-5 in the championship game to win their second national championship.
