Maryland Agriculture Official To Read to Cape Elementary Students

Read Across Maryland month continues with Buddy Hance visiting Cape St. Claire Elementary School on Monday.

First-graders at Cape St. Claire Elementary School will have a very special guest read them a story on Monday, as part of Read Across Maryland month and Ag Literacy Week.

Buddy Hance, a farmer and the Maryland Department of Agriculture Secretary, will read to students on Monday, March 18 at 9:30 a.m. at Cape St. Claire Elementary School.

For the fifth year in a row, Gov. Martin O'Malley's administration is partnering with the Maryland State Education Association, the Maryland Library Association and the Maryland Association of School Librarians to encourage educators, parents and children to read 30 minutes a day for 30 days as part of a Read 30 for 30 program.

This year also marks the third annual Ag Literacy Campaign, launched by the Maryland Agriculture Education Foundation, which visits elementary school classrooms across the state, reads a selected book and talks to students about the importance of agriculture in their lives.
