New Verizon Cell Tower Proposed at BHS

The tower is intended to address poor reception for Cape St. Claire residents.

Are you a Verizon wireless customer in Cape St. Claire with bad cell service? Things are looking up for you.

A 130-foot wireless pole is proposed to be erected this year at Broadneck High School to accommodate Verizon Wireless and four additional carriers, according to a plan reviewed by the school board this month.

"Verizon Wireless (VZW) is addressing a gap in wireless service coverage and capacity in the Cape St. Claire community. Upon evaluating siting alternatives, VZW has identified the Broadneck High School site as its primary candidate for a cellular site," according to the document.

The tower will be built between the athletics field and the practice field near 80-feet tall light posts as a way to diminish the visual impact. The tower will hold up to five carriers in addition to lights for the practice field, according to the document.

In February, a building permit will be sought. If it is successful, construction will begin in accordance with the high school's athletics program schedule.
