Parking at Cape St. Claire Elementary School

CSC Elementary School PTO issues a letter to the community about a meeting to address the increasingly worrisome parking issue.

Dear Cape St. Claire families,

As you have surely experienced, the parking and drop off/pickup situation at Cape St. Claire Elementary is a nightmare. The Fire Marshall has made the entire drop off loop a fire lane so there is to be no parking whatsoever in that area.

Obviously, this a real blow to our already problematic parking and pickup/setup situation. Principal Donna Pergerson has attempted numerous times in the past to secure more parking space for our school. The County has repeatedly turned the requests down. The traffic problem on surrounding streets caused by insufficient parking is a constant safety threat to our children. We desperately need help.

On Monday, May 9th, at the Cape St. Claire Clubhouse, at 7:30 p.m., members of the CSCPTO plan to make a case for the Cape St. Claire Improvement Association to represent our interests to the county. This request would involved the CSCIA hosting a meeting for the purpose of discussing solutions and urging the Board of Education officials to attend.

In order for the request to be considered by the CSCIA, we need at least 35 people present on Monday's meeting to vote for the request. Any and all families that can help by turning out for the meeting will help ensure that this cause moves forward. Without at least 35 of you showing your support next Monday night, the request will not be passed

Sadly, our traffic woes do not stop here. Recently our crossing guard, Annette Hogan, has been relieved of her duties. Annette went above and beyond the work of a regular traffic guard by directing the flow of traffic to make drop off/pick up easier for everyone. There will be a petition at the meeting. Please plan to attend next Tuesday's PTO meeting to voice your concerns about traffic safety outside of the school to Principal Pergerson.

Thank you so much for your support,

The Cape St. Claire Elementary School Parent/Teacher Organization
