PHOTOS: Students Duke It Out with Lego Robots

Saturday's competition at Anne Arundel Community College drew a crowd.

This weekend, students and Lego enthusiasts from across the county gathered at (AACC) for a test of skills.

Saturday was 

Sixteen teams of students ages 9-16 programmed and constructed robots from Lego parts to go through a series of challenges. They'd scoop up pellets, collect rings, and bring them back to their humans for points.

Judges wearing colorful hats often depicting animals oversaw the event, helping students out and scoring them.

Of the 16 teams that competed, the five highest-scoring teams will advance to the state championships this weekend. Those teams are:

  • Brickstorm—Boyds, MD
  • Pineapple Punch—Annapolis Area Christian School, Annapolis
  • Smarties—Bywater Boys and Girls Club of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County, Annapolis, MD
  • Team Infinity—Patriots Technology Training Center, Clinton, MD
  • The LEGOBOTS—Grace Christian School, Bowie, MD
