PHOTOS: Students Freeze in Frigid Friday Plunge
Hey, at least it was a warm afternoon for a cool dip in the Chesapeake Bay.
Thousands of students from all across Maryland lined up on the shores of on Friday to dip in the Chesapeake Bay.
The event was the culmination of the work of these students in raising funds for Special Olympics Maryland. The full numbers of their donations are still rolling in, but as of Wednesday, the students had raised more than $112,000 in Anne Arundel County alone.
Teens wearing swimsuits and towels huddled together on the beach waiting for the whistle to be blown, giving them the chance to take a quick dip in the Chesapeake Bay. Lucky for them, the high on Friday was 56 degrees—hardly frozen water.

But cries of anguish persisted among many.
"That was painful," yelled one student as he ran from the waters.

"Nah, not too bad. It was kinda nice," answered another, when asked.
The Frigid Friday plunge was just a trial run for the full Plunge Fest, which begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Sandy Point State Park.
