Pioneers Basketball Ends Year with Five-Game Streak

Riding a five game win streak the Pioneers are now 10-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The following article was submitted to the Broadneck Patch by Duane Herr, Physical Education and Athletic Assistant at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC).

After winning the Onondaga Classic and building a four game win streak, the Anne Arundel Community College men’s basketball team jumped four spots to fifth in the NJCAA Division III polls.

Looking to keep their success going and close December play on a positive, the Pioneers matched up against Community College of Allegheny County from Pittsburgh, PA trying for another victory.

Despite a 2-7 record, CCAC Allegheny is a constant competitor and proved that Saturday evening against the Pioneers. Allegheny had lost just one game by double digits entering the game and challenged AACC all afternoon.

Entering the recess CCAC held a two point lead, 28-26. Each team held a lead at various times in the first 20 minute half. The second half would be just as competitive with the game remaining close into the final minutes.

Three point and free throw shooting would give AACC the edge down the stretch. Jalen Lester, James Aorilio and Anthony Frazier combined for six three point makes. Aorilio and David Abraham were perfect from the free throw line to close out the game as AACC won 59-54. Riding a five game win streak the Pioneers are now 10-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Aorilio and Frazier each scored 13 points and Frazier grabbed 11 rebounds. Lester added 12 points and 6 assists. Jarvez Pierce finished with 11 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

The Pioneers do not have another scheduled game until January 5th when they return from winter break. That game will be played at Garrett College (2-5, 1-4 MD JUCO) at 5pm.
