School Board Narrows Candidate List for Superintendent

The list of superintendent candidates for Anne Arundel County Public Schools has been narrowed to seven. A community panel will interview the finalists.

A panel of county residents will interview the finalists for the Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ superintendent position once they are chosen, according to a news release.

The board intends to appoint a superintendent at its April 23 meeting.

From the 55 applications received for the superintendent position, board members each formulated a list of 12 candidates to lead Maryland’s fifth-largest school system. Those lists were compiled by Ray & Associates, the search firm hired to lead the search, and the board last week reduced the list to seven candidates. Candidates with whom the board wishes to conduct initial interviews are now being contacted.

After those interviews are complete, the board will develop a list of finalists with whom to conduct second interviews. That process will include interviews with the broad-based and diverse community panel, which was selected by the board’s Superintendent Search Committee after consultation with the full board.

“We are fortunate to have a highly qualified group of applicants for the superintendent position,” said board member Stacy Korbelak, who is chairing the search committee. “We have a difficult decision ahead of us, but look forward to the next few weeks as we work together with our stakeholder representatives to select the best leader for the children of Anne Arundel County.”
