Seven AACC Athletes Honored as All-Americans

Seven Anne Arundel Community College student athletes have been honored as All-Americans for their outstanding performance during the 2012 spring season in their respective sports.

Pioneer golfer Brendan Ahrnsbrak earned All-American Honorable Mention as a freshman this season. Ahrnsbrak finished the NJCAA D3 National Championship at Chautauqua, NY, tied for 14th place after shooting 80, 77, 77 and 74 for a +20. He earned his trip to the National Tourney by winning the Region 20 medal for individual play on the second hole of a sudden death playoff. Ahrnsbrak also earned a spot on the Region 20 First Team.

Four AACC women’s lacrosse players have been awarded All-American First Team honors for the 2012 season. The 17-2 Pioneers finished the season ranked third in the nation after making their second consecutive appearance in the NJCAA National Championship. AACC women’s lax won the Region 20 title and finished as runner up in the District.

Sophomore defender Sam Adams, who earned first team honors, is not new to All-American awards having earned honorable mention as a soccer player in 2010. Adams defense helped the Pioneers hold opponents to 6.9 goals per game and just 131 total goals. In 15 of their 19 games AACC’s defense held opponents to less than 10 goals. Sam also scored three goals this season.

Sophomore midfielder Mary Milligan earned All-American honors for the second straight year after a very impressive 2012 season. The offensive leader for the Pioneers led the nation in total points with 115. She was third in goals scored with 81 and fourth in assists with 34.

Freshman midfielder Meghenn Jackson burst onto the scene for AACC this season finishing second in the nation in total points to earn All-American honors. Jackson totaled 112 points including 91 goals which led the nation and 21 assists. Jackson also landed on the National Championship All-Tournament team after scoring four goals and adding one assist.

Sophomore midfielder Karlee Zywusko rounds out the All-American women’s lacrosse players for 2012. Zywusko scored 36 goals this season for AACC but more importantly she dominated draws for the Pioneers allowing the team to control the ball offensively. Zywusko also had an outstanding National Tournament and earned All-Tournament honors.

Softball player Elaine Nescio has been honored as a First Team All-American for her record setting 2012 season. The Pioneer pitcher totaled 265.2 innings in 39 games pitched. In those 39 games Nescio was 34-5 surrendering just 148 hits, 59 walks, and 39 earned runs for a 1.03 earned run average. With 370 strikeouts Nescio shattered the school record previously held by Kristie Hurman who totaled 319 strikeouts in 2007. At the plate Elaine batted .467 with 84 hits including 22 doubles, a triple, four homeruns, 27 RBI and a team leading 54 runs scored. The 43-10 Pioneers finished as NJCAA D3 National Runner-up after rattling off four straight wins to play for the championship. The Region 20 champs lost the championship game to Gloucester 1-0.

AACC baseball player Daniel Seeba has been honored as an NJCAA Division I second team All-American. The sophomore second baseman posted a .412 batting average with 21 doubles, two triples and eight homeruns. Seeba finished 13th in the nation in runs driven in with 66 and 3rd for stolen bases with 48. A solid defensive player Seeba committed just eight errors while recording 108 puts out and 106 assists. The University of South Carolina—Upstate signee helped lead the Pioneers to a 40-15 record and he is the first All-American baseball player since 2006.
