Broadneck JV Volleyball Team Remains Undefeated

The Broadneck High girls JV volleyball team is 11-0 this year, having only lost one set to the opposition thus far.

There's a new chatter around the halls of these days.

The Bruins, who are used to having athletic success, may have a new top team this fall. It's a team that may come as a bit of a surprise—girls junior varsity (JV) volleyball.

The younger Lady Bruins are 11-0, having lost just one set the opposition this season. Even the recently crowned county champion boys soccer team has tasted defeated this season. The girls JV volleyball team defeated all foes, in and out of county play.

On Saturday, the team dominated a JV tournament held at Arundel High School with five teams that included Severna Park, Arundel, Southern, Chesapeake and Broadneck.

"This year everybody is working hard in practice and displaying that on the court and just pushing each other harder and harder to be successful," sophomore captain Abby Smith said.

After guiding the JV to a 9-4 record last year, Stubbs said he didn't expect this kind of success, but knows he's got a good group nonetheless.

"As long as they listen and play in the system that they're given, they're good. These are good athletes," Stubbs said.

A number of the girls have grown up together playing with Velocity Volleyball Club.

"People are saying that our senior year, we're going to have a state championship," sophomore captain Hannah Hudson said.

The girls will look to continue their undefeated with a diffucult match at South River on Tuesday, before finishing the season up hosting Glen Burnie two days later.

"We're just going to keep pushing, pushing and pushing," sophomore captain Grace Carey said.
