VIDEO: Broadneck Elementary Puts Down Roots with Learning Garden

Students at Broadneck Elementary learned to use their green thumbs Friday morning in the first planting of their learning garden.

The goal of the project is to involve all students in planting, watering and harvesting plants. Students will be learning hands-on about the material they're covering in classrooms involving photosynthesis.

Data will be collected by students on how their plants grow, and they'll perform research along the way.

Students will also be selling the things they grow in the future, with proceeds benefiting the school's Kindness Committee, which assists elementary school families in need, Assistant Principal Jed Kling said.

Arnold Farms helped with the project by donating materials and offering bulbs at a bulk discount, and the Home Depot in Annapolis donated all the building materials needed to make the gardens, Kling said.
