4th Place Finish for Centrowitz

Matthew Centrowitz had an amazing Olympic debut, finishing in fourth place in the men's 1,500 meter finals.

Matthew Centrowitz of Arnold was just four hundredths of a second away from a bronze medal in the finals for men's 1,500-meter race Tuesday.

Centrowitz kept pace with the five foremost runners, until the final lap, when all the runners spread out. Leonel Manzano, another runner from the United States, sped ahead to seize second and will take a silver medal for his 3:34.79 run.

Centrowitz leaped ahead of several other runners to take fourth place, just a hair behind Morocco's Abdalaati Iguider.

It was the end of a stunning Olympic debut for the 22-year-old graduate, who made it all the way to London to compete with the world's best runners.

1  Taoufik Makhloufi (Algeria) 3:34.08 2  Leonel Manzano (USA) 3:34.79 3  Abdalaati Iguider (Morocco) 3:35.13 4  Matthew Centrowitz (USA) 3:35.17

Congratulations on a great run! And we'll see you back in 2016.

If you missed the Men's 1500 m Final but wanted to see it, the NBC Olympics website will probably have it posted tomorrow or Thursday. Check Matt's page (), USA Silver Medalist Lou Manzano's page (), or the event page (). If you must see it right away and can stand some gloating, an Algerian contributor has posted the full event on YouTube (), which apparently isn't yet bothering the IOC or NBC-Universal who hold the rights. No sour grapes here, but personally, I think the eventual Algerian Gold Medalist Taoufik Makhloufi was in fact dogging it in the 800 m heat for which he was disqualified. See my bulletin board on my contributor page for a bit more on that.
